GROW YOUR OWN FOOD

As part of the environment awareness, we conduct kitchen gardening classes in schools, apartments, special schools and also prisons to teach them the benefits of organic vegetables and how to be self-sufficient in growing our own food. We also provide materials for growing vegetables to shelter homes and orphanages.

Sharanalaya

We celebrated International Girl Child day at Sharanalaya, home for Prisoners’ girl children Thudiyalur, Coimbatore. We provided children with new clothes, paper jewellery made by kids, 20 plants to grow vegetables followed by puppet show by children to create awareness about vegetable gardening.

The 48 sets of new clothes were sponsored by Mrs. PriyaLoganathan, snacks for the children by Mrs. ShilpaNahata and logistics support by M/s. TNT India. A gesture from our kids Shrinika, Satvika, Sunethra, Jeyanth, Gagan, Kowsalya, Srinidhi, Asmitha, Vaibhav, Dhruv, Shruti Mohan Kumar for making jewellery from paper and gifting it to their friends made these kids at shelter home feel special. Mrs. Latha Ganesh arranged for 20 vegetable plants. Our volunteer Mrs. AbarnaRamachandran put her heart and soul to ensure this event becomes a success. Mr. Pradeep Kumar from TNT India ensured smooth logistics.
It was an event filled with fun, entertainment, festivity and belongingness. All the kids, danced, sang and enjoyed the company of each other. Kids Sunethra and Shrinika performed a puppet show to create awareness about Vegetable gardening and its advantages. This event brought smiles into the lives of lesser privileged girl children.

Perur Tamil College

Our first Green event (PROJECT – GROW YOUR OWN FOOD) at Tamil College, Perur. NSS Volunteers and school children prepared grow bags for planting their favourite veggies with enthusiasm.
It was a good start with 100 plants. M/s. Dutch Plantin provided us the grow bags and cocopith and Mr. Sam Devairakkam provided compost and seeds.

Thanks to MAKE A DIFFERENCE(MAD), Coimbatore for giving us an opportunity to be part of the Halloween Celebrations. Our volunteers, Mrs. Abarna Ramachandran and Mrs. Latha Ganesh organized 20 veggie plants for the shelter home.

Swarga Foundation at Thalir – Community Care Home for the Girl Child, Kavundampalayam, Coimbatore on January 10, 2015 initiated children to “GROW YOUR OWN FOOD”. We provided 30 grow bags, compost and cocopith to the children to grow vegetables. We immensely thank Ms. Kumudha for the co-ordination.

Coimbatore Central Prison

Swarga Foundation @ Coimbatore Central Prison to launch the “Grow your own food” Project on August 15, 2015. What better day to start this project than Independence Day with people looking for Independence. Swarga Foundaion celebrated Independence day with prison authorities, inmates and children of Sharanalaya, home for girl children of Prisoners. We provided 1000 grow bags, cocopith, compost and seeds to mark the beginning of the project in Prisons. The Jail band ‘s music and songs were melodious, the kids dance performances thoroughly entertained the souls. Our members Shrinikha and Delphina Rex performed a puppet show to highlight the benefits of Vegetable gardening and how this project aims the inmates to become self-reliant. Swarnalatha also sang Vande Mataram to invoke patriotism. We thank the prison authorities and the inmates for the warm hospitality.

WVS Special School
20/08/2015

Swarga Foundation @ WVS Special School for Mentally Challenged on August 20, 2015 with the students of vocational training to encourage the children to plant their favorite veggies and encourage them to involve in gardening activity. Children planted in 50 grow bags. We thank the school authorities for providing us an opportunity to bring children closer to nature, which will be instrumental in the healing process.

KV Matriculation School

Swarga Foundation @ KV Matriculation Higher Secondary School on September 15, 2015 to setup the vegetable garden with 100 grow bags. Scouts and Guides of the school were excited to try their hand at gardening. Swarnalatha also gave a presentation and shared her experiences with the children. The need for compassion, kindness and perseverance was emphasized. We thank the management of the school for organising an interactive session.
