a) Visual Impairment – Eyes of the students were blindfolded. They were asked to walk for two minutes with walking stick for support.
Outcome: Students felt that it was an extremely challenging condition to be not able to see even for few minutes. It kept them wondering, how people with visual impairment manage rest of their lives with these conditions.
b) Mobility impairment – Students were made to sit on the wheelchair and were asked to overcome obstacles coming their way. Here, the obstacle was an iron rod, about 1.5 inches high.
Outcome: None of the students were successful at crossing the barrier, although it was just about 1.5 inches high.
c) Plight of caregivers – Children were asked to move the rollator with a disabled person seated on it, and were made as caregivers trying to overcome obstacles coming their way.
d) Outcome: None of the students were successful at helping the person with disability cross the barrier, although it was just about 1.5 inches high. After futile attempts, the person had to be lifted by 4 students.

Puppet show performed by Delphina Rex and Swarnalatha highlighted the problems faced by the people with disabilities and how they could achieve their goals and fulfil their dreams by being part of an inclusive society.

Swarnalatha emphasized the importance of the support from family and friends which enabled her to fulfil many of her dreams and follow her passion, through her presentation.
Anand Selvaraj, wheelchair national tennis player spoke about his journey. He emphasised the need of ACCESS to DIGNITY and ACCESS to LIFE. He also briefed about why living a quality and meaningful life is important for people with disabilities too and what steps can be taken by the community to build an inclusive society. February 28, 2015

The launch and screening of the short film PIXTON MAGIC’s “Life finds a way”, was scheduled on February 28, 2015 at Arya Vaidya Pharmacy at 5.30 pm. Honorable District Collector, Coimbatore, Mrs. ArchanaPatnaik, Mrs. Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee, Siruthuli& Vice Chairman, Pricol Limited, Dr. Arul Selvan, Senior  Consultant Neurologist, KMCH and Dr. Sapna K V, Incharge of Panchakarma, AVP graced the premiere of the short film. The Coimbatore talkies, Facebookgroup having a strong online presence were our event partners, who handled every chore meticulously and efficiently.

The short film “life finds a way” is based on the life of Swarnalatha, Managing trustee J, settled in Coimbatore, affected with multiple disabilities due to the degenerative disease called MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS, which affects the central nervous system. It outlines the difficulties faced by her husband Guruprasad T S, to bring her back to life, motivate her to follow her passion & the family’s journey to form a charitable trust called “SWARGA FOUNDATION”. The Foundation now supports patients affected with multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases. They organize cyclothons for various social causes, promote art, music & sports among children and patients and promote “Grow own vegetables” concept at orphanages and shelter homes.

After the prayer and welcome address by Coimbatore Talkies, Smt. ArchanaPatnaik and Smt. Vanitha Mohan addressed the audience. Short film running for minimum duration but covers various aspects like how hard times begun, how they started to fight back, focus on other activities, medical explanations of doctors, how family is taking care, beautiful locations, rain and even a minute to show the making of this film. This is the height of effective time management. The title is a famous quote from Jurassic park and it is very apt here and effective.

Many people gathering on Saturday evening and filling the hall showing support for a good cause.
One more very interesting leader in that gathering whom I still find hard-to-believe is our District Collector Ms. ArchanaPatnaik.
