BRIDGING BARRIERS

Swarga Foundation conducted a sensitization program for the police department employees from all police stations across Coimbatore. The training, attended by all station in-charge officers and inspectors, focused on the facilities provided by Swarga Foundation to support individuals with various disabilities when they approach the police station with their grievances.

Swarga Foundation in association with the Coimbatore Police, funded by CRI Pumps has implemented Project Sugamya. A groundbreaking first of its kind initiative in India by ensuring that all of its facilities, including police stations, the Police Commissioner’s office, and the Police hospital, are accessible to individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, and pregnant women.

We have provided wheelchairs, installed ramps for those with mobility impairments, provided contact information for sign language interpreters and special educators, and offer FIRs in text format for conversion to voice for individuals with visual impairments. Additionally, this initiative has facilitated the employment of people with disabilities within the police force itself.

On June 20, 2018, Workshop on “Disability & Inclusion” for the 150+ officials at the Police Commissioner’s office, Coimbatore was conducted by members of Swarga Foundation to sensitize towards the hardships faced by people with disabilities and to empathize to the needs of special people by providing them with adequate support.
Shri. K. Periaiah, IPS, Commissioner of Police and Shri P.Perumal, IPS – Deputy Commissioner – Crime came forward to experience disability and assured that the sensitization has definitely brought positive change and people with disabilities and senior citizens shall be treated with respect.
